Casey

Age: 11

Cancer: Unknown but mass was detected

I got Casey as a puppy. My brother found him in small shelter outside of Columbus NE. He was truly an amazing dog. He always had a toy in his mouth when I got home or my roommate came home to greet us with. He was a social butterfly. I started bringing him to the dog park when he was 9 months old and we went every Sat & Sun regardless of weather. Hot days would take him to the lake to go swimming. He also loved the mud and the muddier he got the happier he was. Lucky for me he did not mind baths either. As he got older and his arthritis got worse I no longer took him to the dog park when it was cold and stopped because when dogs jumped on him I knew it was too much. He never let you know when he was in pain but I knew him well to know when he was. Last August things got worse for him. A mass was detected outside his intestines but they could not determine what it was even with an ultra sound. End of December he woke me up in the middle of the night as he was bleeding from his nose. Rushed him to the pet ER. His vet determined most likely it was cancer and was given options to prolong his life but he was in so much pain and lost an extreme amount of weight. I knew it was not right to make him suffer any more and so with a heavy heart I made the decision to have him put to sleep on 1/7/2017. He was a dear kind soul who I miss more than words can express.
