Jasper Doodle was a delight all his life, starting from the very first adorable goofy ‘puppy’ antics. We named him Jasper but he soon he picked up the nickname Doodle as he loved to wander slowly around both inside and out, just doodling around. Loved his people, visitors, all animals even his rabbit in the backyard, just always wanted to say hello.
It’s a GR thing … not unusual at all seeing him run the house with several socks or a wet towel stuffed in his mouth. Sticks were his nemesis outside as was fresh snow. Loved rain, hated thunderstorms. Car ride? Heck yah, let’s go. Liked parks the best, especially if there was a chance to be part of a “snuggle” of Goldens.
Last year he was at my son’s just loving life. I think he enjoyed being with other dogs, cats and all the visitors from whom he got the senior pack leader treatment. The two toddler grandsons called him “Noodle”, he adored them both.
Had developed multiple mast cell tumors all over his body with a very large tumor on his foot that caused him to develop a limp the last month and a small rectal tumor giving him more and more for bleeding problems. Another visit to the vet confirmed that the two could be surgically treatable. However, given the prognosis, large number of other lumps and bumps, his labored breathing, age, and time of year we decided after much deliberation that surgery might not be the wisest choice. His last week was full of car rides, special foods and lots of love. We had him cremated and he is now “Noodle in a Box” on the fireplace mantle. So many precious memories, we really miss the big golden boy.
