It’s amazing how your whole life can change. One day I’m living with my lifelong companion, Nola, on an acreage; the next day we are living in a cool house with a BIG backyard and people who constantly dote and love on us. The first morning I brought my new foster mom a present to the back door…a squirrel carcass! I was so proud of myself!  We liked our new digs, but it took some time for us to get adjusted to being indoor dogs.

One thing it didn’t take us long to learn was how to be lap dogs! I immediately gravitated towards a stuffed turtle and for a while it was the only toy I was interested in. My foster parents made sure my turtle baby was always with me so I felt safe and comfortable. We started going for walks every day and our new harnesses kept us from chasing after bunnies and squirrels (much to our dismay!).

We started working on our commands: Sit, Stay, Come, Focus, Drop It and Leave It.  We continue to practice and I get better all the time. My foster parents said I am the stubborn one though, so some days are better than others! At first, we were reactive around other dogs, but now they don’t seem to bother us. My latest accomplishment is playing with ALL the toys from the basket and fetching balls in the yard.

My foster mom and dad were very patient and loving with us. When the time came, they asked if we wanted to be a family of four. Of course, I said YES! They said we were just too sweet to say goodbye to. The volunteers at GRRIN were determined to keep Nola and I together and place us in the perfect foster home that would be dedicated to raising us as well-mannered Goldens. I think I’m just about there. I continue to protect/play big sister to Nola, but my new mom and dad say it’s time for me to be a puppy now too! I’m looking forward to attending upcoming GRRIN events and meeting all of you!
