In Memory of Frankie 17-08

In Loving Memory of Frankie

Frankie joined our family as a “foster fail” through GRRIN. A stunning 6-year-old Golden Retriever at the time, he had been surrendered after spending years outside, isolated from the companionship he needed. Frankie, like all Goldens, thrived on love and interaction, but his early years had left their mark—his front teeth were worn down from chewing on anything within reach. We volunteered to foster him temporarily, but within days, we knew he’d found his forever home with us. His playful personality, gentle nature, and deep need for connection stole our hearts.

He quickly settled in with our other Golden, Layla. Though they didn’t often play together, they shared a quiet, special bond. Frankie adored our kids and grandkids, his trusty Kong, and his beloved stuffed bears. He loved basking in the sunshine, his radiant reddish-gold coat shining brightly, a truly handsome guy.

This past March, Frankie had his first seizure and was diagnosed with Vestibular Syndrome, leaving him unable to move anything but his tail. For a time, we carried him everywhere he needed to go—an 85-pound labor of love. As we said, “He’s not heavy, he’s our Frank.” He rallied, but the seizures returned in August and again recently. At 14 years old, after a challenging start, he lived a full life and left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Frankie had a way of looking you right in the eyes, and in those moments, it felt like we could see into each other’s soul. A kind, gentle, and wonderfully goofy Golden, Frankie will be deeply missed by all.
