In Memory of Kyra 23-04

It is with broken hearts that we write our story about our sweet, sweet Kyra. She passed away a few days before Thanksgiving. She had struggled with seizures, but we really seemed to have them under control with medications. Then she was diagnosed with lung cancer in November, and passed away 10 days after her diagnosis. We adopted her in March of 2023 and she was such a joy! She was the happiest, sweetest girl. She loved her stuffed animals and would greet us with a different “chosen one” each time we came home. She loved to swim, and had some floating seahorses that she thought were her babies. She would gather them if they floated away from her, and she always knew where each one was! She would continue to mother them even in the winter when we would bring them in until next spring. Kyra was so smart! I taught her some basic sign language and she knew the signs for swim, walk, eat, sleep, and most importantly GramGram! She knew that sign meant she got to go on a car ride to my mom’s house. Kyra would literally jump for joy when she saw me sign Grandma! She loved exploring my moms backyard, screened-in porch and house. She made friends not only with our cat, but my mom’s cat as well. She absolutely loved her morning walks and exploring everything we saw on our “adventures”. Kyra had the most gentle soul. She asked for nothing, and gave us everything.

We would like to thank GRRIN, her GRRIN foster dad, and the family who surrendered her, for sharing sweet Kyra with us. We would also like to mention Nebraska Pet Hospice, and specifically Dr Tunnard, who came out to our home and helped Kyra cross the rainbow bridge when her time had come. Dr Tunnard and the entire staff were unbelievably kind, compassionate and professional. We will never forget them. We thought we would have so much more time with Kyra. We are incredibly grateful for every day we had with her. There are no words to describe what a blessing she was. She is missed by many and will always be in our hearts and thoughts.
