Meet & Greet at The Green Spot!

Thank you for visiting GRRIN at The Green Spot!

August 29 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Join GRRIN volunteers for a meet and greet at The Green Spot!

1110 S 71st St, Omaha

Please note we do not guarantee the availability of our foster dogs and we do not adopt at events. To learn more about adopting a dog through GRRIN, visit https://grrin.org/adopt/.

Meet Gunner and Reagan!

Reagan and Gunner have been adopted! Thank you to everyone for your interest!

GRRIN has two very special dogs in foster care that we would like to adopt together. Gunner and Reagan’s bio is below – they are quite the pair! If you are considering adoption, please note:

  • Do you have a physical fence and is the fence attached to your home so that a dog can safely access the yard?
  • Do you plan to keep the dog inside when you are not at home?
  • Do you plan to have the dog live inside the house and be a part of the family?
  • Can you afford to spend upwards of $1000 per year to cover the standard medical costs for a large dog which include year-round heartworm/parasite treatment, annual vaccinations, and emergency vet expenses?

If you answered “yes” to these questions and would like to learn more about adoption, call our Goldline at 402-330-6680 and a volunteer will help you begin the application process.

About Gunner and Reagan…

Hi! My name is Gunner, and this is my little “sister” Reagan. We are both three-year-old golden retrievers, but not from the same litter. We lived with the same family together and were surrendered to GRRIN by them. Reagan is two months younger than me, so I consider myself the spokes-dog.

Reagan and I are both very loving and carefree dogs. We came from a family where there were several other dogs, cats, and children of all ages.

I would like to tell you a little more about Reagan and myself. We both love running and romping with each other. Toys and playing catch are favorite games of ours. We love the outdoors. Being close to our people is a top priority for both of us. Reagan and I absolutely love people of all sizes, and we got along fine with other dogs and cats in our previous home. We are cuddlers and pleasers.

Reagan and I are still working on a few things like not pulling on a leash. We are learning our basic skills, but because we are both so smart, we are catching on fast. I have already learned that counter surfing is not acceptable. Reagan is a little spunkier than me, so she is working on being calmer.

The two of us are crate trained, but we really don’t need to use our crates. We are house trained, and neither of us chew on anything inappropriately. We both sleep through the night, and neither of us seem to be afraid of much.

Reagan and I are looking forward to finding a furever home where we can share our love, loyalty, and gentleness. We really would like to be adopted as a pair, as the two of us have been through a lot together, and we are very bonded.

If you are a family that has room in your heart and home for two beautiful, sweet, smart, and very goofy goldens then here we are. We promise you won’t be disappointed, and there will never be a dull moment with the two of us around.

GRRIN Needs Foster Families

GRRIN’s mission is to rescue golden retrievers, but if we do not have enough foster homes, then there is the possibility that we will have to turn away dogs in need or ask a surrendering family to wait a longer period before their dog can come into foster care. Although our rescue operations have been slow during the pandemic, we are still receiving surrender calls. When we have dogs with specialized needs (only dog in the home, no young children, limited stairs) it helps to have a variety of foster families for us to contact.

If you have been thinking about becoming a foster parent, or if you simply have questions about the process, please reach out to GRRIN. Either send an email to info@grrin.org or call us at 402.330.6680 and leave a message. A GRRIN volunteer will get back to you to answer your questions and begin the foster approval process.

For more information, see the Foster a Golden page.

Giving Tuesday – December 1

Thank you to everyone who participated in Share Omaha’s first Giving Tuesday promotion on December 1st! GRRIN raised over $700 through Share Omaha donations and over $500 more from supporters who donated directly through GRRIN’s PayPal option.

We’ve cared for several special-needs seniors in 2020, so your donations are greatly appreciated and are used for veterinary care. Senior dog Scout was able to receive diagnostic testing and medication. He was adopted in December!

Renew Your Membership!

It’s time to renew your membership with GRRIN! Click here!

In 2021 we are celebrating 30 years of rescue! Despite the challenges of pandemic restrictions, we continued our mission in 2020 and can’t wait to see what 2021 brings.

The reason our rescued Golden Retrievers have such great lives is simple: they have YOU in addition to their devoted forever families. YOU are GRRIN members.  Many of YOU not only pay dues but YOU also donate additional time and resources in order to help us continue to rescue and rehome Goldens.

Your active membership will provide you with access to the following members-only benefits:

  • Voting rights at the annual meeting in April
  • A 10 percent discount on all merchandise in our GRRIN store
  • Invitations to members-only events for you and your Golden
  • A subscription to our quarterly newsletter

And, if possible, thank you for considering an additional charitable donation to help GRRIN continue our efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and find forever homes for Golden Retrievers.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the GRRIN rescue team, our many volunteers and, most importantly, our GRRIN dogs, thank you so much for your ongoing support and engagement!

GRRIN Fundraiser! Saturday, October 31

GRRIN is having an old-fashioned bake sale fundraiser!

Join us at Woof & Whiskers on Saturday, October 31, 12-2pm. Bring your favorite pups – or dress them up, it’s Halloween after all! – and come stock up on their favorite treats. We’ll have a specially designed cookie made just for GRRIN and all proceeds will go to our organization. We’ll also be selling our 2021 calendars if you haven’t already purchased one.

This fundraiser has been organized thanks to two high school students who want to give back to their community (and rescue dogs!), and we are incredibly grateful to Woof & Whiskers for supporting this event.

GRRIN Taking Applications Again

GRRIN is once again open for new applications, so if you are interested in adopting a dog or becoming a foster family, please call the GRRIN Goldline at 402.330.6680.

Please note the safety of our volunteers is still our first priority, so it may take longer to schedule a visit to your home. We also have fewer dogs in foster care and approved families may wait several months to adopt.

Omaha Gives! 2020

Thank you for participating in the 8th annual 24-hour charitable challenge, Omaha Gives, on May 20th. Golden Retriever Rescue in Nebraska received $6355 in donations from 84 donors. Your contribution will help us cover vet expenses for our foster dogs. In 2020 we have already fostered six senior dogs that require comfort care, while two other dogs underwent expensive, but necessary, surgeries (and are doing well!).

Omaha Gives is organized by the Omaha Community Foundation to show off Omaha’s spirit of giving, raise awareness about local nonprofits, and celebrate the collective effort it takes to make our city great. More than 1000 nonprofits participated to raise a record $8.5 million – and they could not have done it without you!

During the 24 hours of giving, Omaha Gives raises millions of dollars for the community and over 900 participating non-profits. The Omaha Community Foundation has brought this outstanding opportunity to the metro for seven years.

In 2019 the majority of our funds covered veterinary expenses and jumped to nearly $800 for each of the 47 dogs we rescued. Vet care included 17 spay and neuter procedures, cancer treatment for two seniors, expensive corrective surgeries, and palliative care. Adoption fees are $400 per dog, so we rely on generous donors to help our mission of getting dogs the best care they need before going to a new home.

Or, make your donation on Wednesday, May 20th. The giving begins at midnight with a minimum $10 donation and hourly drawings and prizes make your donations go further. So start gathering your circles and get ready for another great big give-together!

Follow all of the action on May 20th on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

GRRIN’s response to COVID-19

In light of the impacts from COVID-19, the various restrictions imposed both nationally and locally, and the safety of GRRIN’s volunteers, the following policies are being put in place:
  • GRRIN will not accept applications for adoption or foster families; traditional home visits will not be conducted
  • Public events will be canceled through April
  • We are asking families needing to surrender to wait 30 days if possible, but please call our Goldline now (402-330-6680) so we can gather information; exceptions will include previously adopted GRRIN dogs
  • Adoption procedures for current foster dogs will be managed on a case-by-case basis and adoptions will only take place if absolutely necessary

We will review these procedures in 30 days, but anticipate safety restrictions will continue for a longer period of time.

Again, the safety of our volunteers and dogs is a high priority. We do not have a facility and rely on approved foster families, therefore we are trying to preserve those homes for dogs with the most need.

GRRIN has always tried to provide resources to families in need, whether it involves behavioral problems or special care for their Goldens. Please contact our Goldline with questions, 402-330-6680.

CANCELED! Nature Dog Meet & Greet

This event has been canceled.

Join GRRIN at Nature Dog from noon to 2pm! Nature Dog is dedicated to providing the healthiest and most wholesome foods for your dog and cat. They have grown over the years to carry an extensive selection of only super-premium products. Come check it out and meet our dogs available for adoption!

Note: We do not guarantee the availability of our foster dogs at meet and greet events. Due to the large number of applications we receive, the adoption process can take several months. We do not have an online application – please learn more about our adoption requirements, then leave a message on our Goldline. A volunteer will return your call. Be prepared to spend at least 30 minutes to answer questions.

Renew Your Membership!

It’s time to renew your membership with GRRIN! Click here!

In 2020 we will turn 29 years old! Our founding members could not have predicted the successful outcome of their mission to rescue a few homeless Goldens, but here we are celebrating another year of caring for these wonderful dogs. In fact, we took in over 40 new foster dogs, found forever families for 36 dogs, and are currently caring for a dozen foster dogs, including nine seniors! Despite significant medical expenses, we were able to give the best care possible.

And, if possible, thank you for considering an additional charitable donation to help GRRIN continue our efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and find forever homes for Golden Retrievers.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the GRRIN rescue team, our many volunteers and, most importantly, our GRRIN dogs, thank you so much for your ongoing support and engagement!

Nature Dog Photos

We want to thank everyone that came out yesterday to Nature Dog for Photos with Santa! Due to the great response from everyone and the amount of photos that were taken, we want to let you all know your photos will be all sent by tonight. We also want to give a huge shout out and thank you to Michelle Vidlak of M Realea Photography for taking all of the wonderful photos of all the dogs that came out. Thank you all for your patience and have a great holiday season!

Turn That GRRIN Into an Amazon Smile

It’s that time of year again. It’s the holiday season, and many of us have a lot of shopping to do. But what if we told you that by shopping, you could help support GRRIN while doing basically nothing at all?

If you’re not familiar, Amazon Smile is program through amazon.com that enables you to choose a charitable organization to support. Every time you purchase eligible products on Amazon, your chosen organization (GRRIN, of course!) will receive proceeds at no cost to you. All you have to do is go to smile.amazon.com.

The first time you visit, you will need to select GRRIN as the organization you would like to support. To do this, find “Or pick your own charitable organization” on the lower right hand side. You can search for GRRIN by typing in “Golden Retriever Rescue in Nebraska” OR “47-0758414”. You only need to do this once. In the future, Amazon will remember that you want your shopping to support GRRIN.

After that, all you have to do is make sure you go to smile.amazon.com (instead of www.amazon.com) every time you shop on amazon. Everything will look and function the same, but GRRIN will receive money every time you purchase eligible products!

GRRIN Needs Foster Families

GRRIN’s mission is to rescue golden retrievers, but if we do not have enough foster homes, then there is the possibility that we will have to turn away dogs in need. This is not something that we want to do, but our list of foster homes is struggling to up with our need. We are especially in need of foster homes willing to care for senior goldens and bonded pairs.

NEW! Bogie Update

Bogie has been adopted! Thank you to everyone for following the journey of this very special dog. He is lucky to have found a wonderful “furever” family! We’ll share a full story soon.

August 24th update!

Bogie is thriving with his new foster family! He is always happy and is having a lot of fun, attention and adventure. Bogie’s foster mom has brought him to two meet & greets and he is getting used to wearing his “wheels” again – ironically, he can move around faster without them. Here is some more good news—Bogie has had negative urine cultures, so we are going to proceed with his Cystotomy procedure. This is going to help him and his foster family take care of his bladder needs, and it will reduce and/or eliminate his UTI recurrences. Bogie’s surgery will take place within the next week, stay tuned for more updates about his recovery and continued progress.

Thank you to everyone for your amazing support of Bogie!

Bogie was safely transported from the vet’s office to a new foster home last week! He is currently living with a local vet and his wife, hanging out at the office during the day and spending nights and weekends with a real family. Bogie as usual has endeared himself to his foster parents, their resident pets, and all of the staff at the office. Once his infection has completely cleared, he’ll be a candidate for a minor surgery that will make it easier to empty his bladder.

We can’t thank everyone enough for your kind words, foster leads, and taking the time to help GRRIN with outreach.

And we also want to thank the generous donors who have helped us with Bogie’s veterinary expenses. We had an anonymous donor give quite generously to Bogie’s care at VCA. In addition, Woof & Whiskers made a donation and held a fundraiser for Bogie. The Bogie’s Bones campaign raised $750 by selling personalized dog treats to over 140 community members! THANK YOU!
